Hynes admits Malmo are tough draw

Having turned out for Derry City against FC Pyunik of Armenia in 2007, Peter Hynes counts as one of the more experienced euro campaigners in the Drogheda United squad. The striker acknowledged the scale of Drogheda’s task, having been drawn against Swedish giants Malmo FF in Monday’s Europa League draw.
“It’s probably the toughest draw we could have got”, he admitted. “It will be a tough game but we’ll look forward to it and it’ll be great experience for us to go to Sweden and play against a team like Malmo.
“I played for Derry in the home leg against Pyunik and then we went away to Armenia so that was a tough trip as well. We had to get three flights which was very difficult but I think Malmo will probably be a direct flight so it shouldn’t be too hard to get there. So, travel-wise it’s a good draw but they’re probably the hardest team we could have got.
“I’m sure there’ll be a good few fans that will travel to Sweden so we’ll probably bring a good crowd. We could have got Inter Baku from Azerbaijan which would have been difficult for fans to get to so from the fans point of view it’s more accessible.
Given the squad’s relative inexperience in European matters, Hynes anticipates a fair degree of excitement among his team mates, but he was quick to point out that they have a game against Shamrock Rovers to deal with first.
“Everyone’s going to be looking forward to it and when we go in for training tomorrow evening I’d say a lot of the talk will be about that, but we have a game on Friday first. But yeah, the whole squad will be looking forward to it”.
