Tough task ahead for Drogs

Drogheda United manager Mick Cooke gave his reaction to the draw for the first qualifying round of the Europa League which took place in Nyon on Monday morning. The draw pitched Drogheda into a tie with Swedish side, and former European Cup finalists, Malmo FF.
“There’s a tough task ahead of us”, he admitted. “Malmo are doing okay in the league at the moment and they’re in their season as well, so it won’t be a matter of getting a team that hasn’t been playing regularly.”
“We’ll certainly look forward to it, we’ll be well prepared and between now and then we’ll do as much homework on them as we can. Either myself or Robbie Horgan will go and watch them this weekend.”
“We’ll look forward to it and financially I don’t think it will too much of a hardship on the club. So, all in all, I’m very pleased with the draw.”
Cooke was quick to refer to Cork City’s defeat of Malmo in the 2004 Intertoto Cup.
“I know time has moved on and playing staff have changed but obviously Cork’s experience will give us hope. Gabriel Sava was over there on trial last summer and we’ll certainly have plenty of information on them and there’ll be no stone left unturned to have us well prepared.”
