Ward transfer listed by Wolves

Recently relegated Wolves have placed Republic of Ireland defender Stephen Ward on the transfer list, with new manager Kenny Jackett hoping to reshape his squad ahead of their League One campaign.

Ward, who has played over 200 games for Wolves since joining from Bohemians in 2007, had been a mainstay in the club’s first team for the past four seasons. However, with Wolves suffering back-to-back relegations, the 27 year-old has been deemed no longer needed by the club’s new manager.

Former Milwall boss Jackett confirmed Ward’s availability to other clubs at the club’s opening day of pre-season. Ward is joined by Wolves captain Karl Henry, defender Roger Johnson and midfielder Jamie O’Hara on the transfer list.

Speaking to the Wolves official website, Jackett said: “I’ve spoken to the four lads who have gone on the transfer list because I want to be honest with them and tell them that they are not part of my plans.

“They understand my reasoning. We will also be seeing what interest there is in the whole of the squad.”

The news will undoubtedly come as a blow to Ward, who also lost his place to Marc Wilson in Giovanni Trapattoni’s Republic of Ireland squad since the European Championships, where he was the Italian’s first-choice left-back.
