Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni told his post match press conference that Robbie Keane was destined for a long career in the game from an early age. Keane equalled Shay Given's record caps total of 125 for Ireland after he came on as a substitute during Sunday's 4-0 win over Georgia.

“I think that Robbie (Keane) was destined.  He was a young creative player. He played for a famous team in Italy (Inter Milan). He played with Tottenham in England. Now he continues to show us these creative qualities.”

Keane took his tally for his country to 56 following his double over Georgia and Trapattoni revealed one of the reasons for the striker's success.

“There are players who feel the goal. Robbie is one of these players. He shows us he is not finished yet because also in Los Angeles every week he scores goals. ”

The Italian, who praised James McCarthy for his passing on Sunday, believes that this is also an area where Keane has got better with experience.

“Every player has individual qualities. If you remember maybe about two years ago I said also when he becomes a little bit older he can play in behind the first striker because all the time he think about football. He thinks about when to pass the ball or not. All the time today he passed the ball fantastic with time. That comes from experience. His experience is important. Also (Wes) Hoolahan has this quality.”
