Taylor pleased with Limerick display

Having watched his side safely negotiate their way past a potential banana skin in non-league Glenville FC, Limerick FC boss Stuart Taylor was satisfied with his team's performance.

“I'm absolutely over the moon, coming up here and getting a 3-0 win, it's pleasing for me”, he said.

“Glenville are a good side and it was always going to be a difficult game but I was delighted with the pitch, it was a good, big and wide surface for us to pass the ball on.”

Limerick enjoyed the large bulk of possession throughout but faced a stern, well organised Glenville side who made it difficult for their opponents to thread passes in the final third. Limerick's patience while in possession pleased Taylor.

“Patience and sticking to our game plan were the most important things for us today and we stuck to it and it paid off for certainly the first goal.”

Man of the match Rory Gaffney netted two of Limerick’s three goals but his all round performance earned the praise of his manager.

“I thought Rory done his job well, he held the ball up, he linked up and always came across and was always an option for players to play off him, he got himself two goals and I'm delighted for him.”

With another trip to Dublin in line next weekend with league leaders St Patrick's Athletic awaiting at Richmond Park, Taylor feels there is plenty of room for optimism.

“There was lots of positives there, having a clean sheet, getting three goals, creating chances, having a high percentage of play so it was all good looking ahead.”

Yet despite his team's performance in the Cup, the Limerick manager knows in-form St Pat’s will prove a tough nut to crack.

“Pat’s are a very good side, they are top of the league for a reason so it’s going to be a right hard game for us next week especially on their home patch. We played them at home and they won 0-1 with a penalty but they have gone from strength to strength since then and have done fantastically well.

"But we know all the pressure is on them, they're the ones who are setting the standard in the League of Ireland, they're the ones that everyone wants to go and beat. We are still building but hoping to put in a good performance next week.”
