Chambers taking it one game at a time

Shamrock Rovers midfielder James Chambers felt that his side were not at their best against Shelbourne on Friday night but he was happy to get the three points after a lot of draws already this season in the league.

“I don't think they caused us too much trouble to be honest. I don't think we played as well as we could have but in spells there was certainly an awful lot of good play in certain patches of the game and to get the three points is good.”

Chambers acknowledged that a title challenge is expected from Rovers. He believes that the Hoops have to kick on from the 1-0 win against Shels if they are to challenge the teams towards the top of the table.

“We have to kick on from this. We've been saying that for a while. We've strung a few decent amount of results together now. Obviously last week was a bit disappointing but we haven't been beaten in a good few now so the main thing is to keep a run going and put some points on the board and see where it leaves us.

“We just need to look at the teams ahead of us and try and catch them. We are nearly at the halfway stage but there is nothing won or lost this early in the season.”
 

Rovers number eight also revealed that whether it is league or cup he is encouraged by his manager Trevor Croly to not look too far ahead one game at a time.

“Personally it's game by game for myself d'you what I mean? The gaffer instils that into us. Whatever game it is we play and worry about that and then if the next one is a cup game then we will worry about that.”
