Airtricity Premier Division Betting - Gameweek 14
Patrick Power had a field day last week. UCD going up north and turning over Derry - Sligo failing to beat bottom-dwelling Bray. It was a week of nearlys. 2 out of 5 ain't too great my fellow accumulatees - I shall hope to redeem myself with a full fixture list this weekend.
Shamrock Rovers V Bohemians
What a way to start the weekend. Red-hot hatred, foaming at the mouth, irritable Gardai on horseback - it has to be Rovers-Bohs. Rovers are the most unpredictable team in Europe, can follow dour losses to UCD with 7-1 cup final wins. Bohs are a bit more predictable I'm afraid. With Chris Lyons suspended, I can't see them scoring in against the Tallaght outfit tonight.
Betting: Shamrock Rovers to win to nil at 10/11
Cork City V Bray Wanderers
Cork performed Ye Olde Smash and Grab at Dalymount last week. Even Tommy Dunne agreed they were lucky to escape with a valuable 3 points that cuts the bottom 4 off a bit. Another win here would surely leave a straight relegation battle between Bray, UCD, Shels, and Bohs. And win is what they should do against a Bray side who have lost 5 out of six away games, conceding a massive 18 goals in the process. Back Cork to win, but also take a look at a Danny Morrissey wincast - he's just been called up to train with the Ireland U21s and might look to celebrate that with a goal.
Betting: Cork City at 8/13 and/or Wincast - Danny Morrissey to score & Cork to win at 13/5
Drogheda United V Derry City
Both teams will probably still be smarting from losses last week. Derry capitulated at home to UCD when ground was to be made on Sligo, while Drogs got their asses handed to them by Shamrock Rovers. They bounced back with a midweek win over Limerick, and I fancy a little stalemate here.
Betting: Draw at 11/5
UCD V Limerick
I've been getting stick on Twitter for constantly tipping UCD to get beaten and one particularly irked Student didn't like my wish that they'd 'bore off'. Sweet Karma of course means that when I do tip them (which I am tonight), they will almost certainly muck it up! But they are playing great, coming off wins against Rovers, Bohs and Derry. 13/5 is an absolutely delicious price at home to an unpredictable Limerick.
Betting: UCD at 13/5
Shelbourne V St. Patrick's Athletic
Things are getting pretty desperate at Shels. Alan Mathews has won the race for the first manager to go, and it's no surprise with their dire results and even direr play. Whispers abound that Roddy might by the man to lead them to redemption. Please, Jesus let this be true. The José Mourinho of Irish football is wasted in the First Division. We need his interviews, his long coats, and his general knack of getting on everyone's nerves to be at the top table. We'd all love to see him squaring up to Liam Buckley, possibly ruffling his shameful hair. Shels will have to wait for their 'new manager bounce', as I can't see Kevin Doherty leading them to anything but a defeat against solid St Pats.
Betting: St Patricks Athletic -1 at 11/8
Sligo Rovers V Dundalk
Sligo haven't been as invincible recently, but seven wins out of 8 in all competitions at home spells trouble for Dundalk. The inked-beast Anthony Elding hasn't scored since April, and I think he might wreak some Hulk-like damage on the Lilywhites here.
Betting: Wincast - Elding to score and Sligo to win at 11/8
KF's Tricky Treble: Cork, UCD and Sligo at around about a delicious 8/1
