League hit with alleged betting scandal

According to reports this morning on RTE Radio 1, it has been alleged that St Patricks Athletic players have been found to be betting against themselves. If true, this is yet another hammerblow to the league in a year worth forgetting for many reasons.

The report claimed that CEO Richard Sadlier had met with the players last night and that it emerged that the players had been betting against themselves. Sadlier has come out and said he is extremely concerned by these allegations and will be launching a full enquiry. In recent games, St Pats have lost against Cobh Ramblers, Galway United and Cork City. These three defeats come in the last month, where previously Pats had lost 4 games in the entire campaign.

This year has seen Cork City and Drogheda United enter into examinership, getting deducted 10 points in the process and numerous clubs have hit severe financial difficulty threatening their future existance in the league.
