Drogheda issue supporter bans

Drogheda United have issued a statement on their official club website in relation to the disturbances at the Showgrounds during their Airtricity League game with Sligo Rovers last Saturday.

The club has now issued over 20 bans to those involved in the crowd trouble, including some life bans. The full statement reads as follows:

Following scenes of hooliganism and the total disregard shown for both Drogheda United and Sligo Rovers clubs, supporters and security staff last Saturday night in Sligo, the board of management of Drogheda United has today issued bans to over 20 individuals. Some will be life bans while others will be season-long bans.

Some of these bans have been issued on the basis of Saturday night’s activities alone whilst others have been issued on the basis of repeated past offences as well as the offences of Saturday night. In reaching these decisions we have consulted with photography that has been shared with us, with television footage and with witnesses including a number of Drogheda United supporters who were present in Sligo.

We cannot fix the wrongs that were done in Sligo last week but we believe that by taking the decision to prevent the offenders from coming to any further matches, this will create a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all supporters of Drogheda United and indeed for the League of Ireland in general.
