Peamount United and Raheny United played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in an intriguing top of the table clash in the Bus Éireann Women's National League at Morton Stadium on Sunday.

These two great rivals could not be separated after an absorbing encounter that leaves champions Peamount leading the division by five points but with Raheny having two games in hand the title run-in will go down to the wire.

After Siobhan Killeen had gone close for the home side, the league's top scorer Sara Lawlor was denied an opener for Peamount by good Katie McCabe defending.

Killeen broke the deadlock with a brilliant finish in the 36th minute after clever build-up play by Rebecca Creagh and that's how it remained at the break.

Lawlor showed her class to fire Peamount level three minutes into second half when it looked like the home defence had the situation under control.

Stephanie Roche created an excellent chance to Lawlor to head her side in front ten minutes later but the striker's header failed to hit the target.

Peamount were handed a golden chance to grab control of the title race with ten minutes left when they were awarded a penalty kick, which was converted by Roche.

However Raheny showed great spirit to level five minutes later when Megan Campbell headed home brilliantly from a corner and neither side was able to carve out a winner.
