Drogheda appeal points deduction

Following last night's points deduction, former eircom League Champions. Drogheda United today confirmed that they will be appealing this decision.

In an official statement, the club outlined that it felt that their situation"is a unique case and, as such, should be judged on its own merits."

How the FAI and the Independent Licensing Committee view this latest development remains to be seen. While there is clearly a right to appeal involved in the process, the fact is that another high profile case involving Cork City did not pursue this avenue, instead taking their punishment and getting on with the task at hand i.e saving their football club, rather than diverting attention from the real problems with a costly, and more than likely fruitless, appeal.
