Raheny United will bid to maintain the pressure on champions and league leaders Peamount United when they face injury-hit DLR Waves at Frank Cooke Park on Wednesday night.

DLR suffered a 10-1 hammering by the Peas on Sunday and although the return of experienced Sylvia Gee will strengthen their hand, coach Larry Mahony has several injury issues to contend with.

“The big issue is that goalkeeper Linda Meehan suffered a quad injury just before the end of the Peamount game and is out. Amy Corcoran broke her thumb a few weeks ago so she too is out and it is going to be an issue regarding who goes in goal,” said Mahony.

Other injury problems see Avril Kilkelly, Lauren Kavanagh and Michelle Dunne ruled out while Vicky Reynolds has work commitments. Raheny are at full strength minus suspended Katie McCabe.

“The Peamount game was one where everything that could go wrong did go wrong but we’ll just have to forget about it and try give Raheny a decent game,” said Mahony.

Raheny boss Sean Byrne is keeping his players focused on the challenge at hand. He said: “We need the three points to stay on Peamount’s tail so we have to be focused on that and doing what it takes to get the win.”
