Raheny close gap on Peamount; Castlebar win

Raheny United had to come from behind to claim the three points against DLR Waves in a tense encounter at Jackson Park today which leaves them five points behind leaders Peamount United with two games in hand.

DLR Waves opened the scoring when Sylvia Gee fired home impressively from outside the box with a left-footed strike in the 14th minute.

Rebecca Creagh equalised for Raheny in the 44th minute after Waves failed to deal with a ball behind their defence.

Creagh put the visitors back in front with eight minutes left after a goal-mouth scramble but it was a three points that the visiting side deserved on the balance of play.

Elsewhere, Castlebar Celtic consolidated their position in fourth spot after securing a 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers at the AUL Complex.

Shauna Jackson hit a long range volley that flew into the top corner in the 15th minute and Celtic had to show a bit of character to hang on after goalkeeper Ashling Concannon was forced off through injury midway through the second half.
