Crewe Alexandra have added to their midfield by securing Josh Austerfield on loan from Huddersfield Town for the remainder of the season.

The 22-year-old midfielder is the second addition to Lee Bell’s squad in the January transfer window and is expected to potentially feature in the upcoming match against Barrow on Saturday.

Austerfield, a product of Huddersfield's academy, has previously made an impact during loan spells at Harrogate Town and Morecambe.

He has also gained experience playing for Huddersfield in The Championship this season.

Since turning professional at 17, Austerfield has accumulated over 50 senior appearances.

Ryan Dicker, Crewe assistant manager, praised the new signing.

"Josh is a talented boy and has an excellent profile... He's technically very good and will fit in with our style of play."

Dicker emphasized Austerfield's adaptability and previous loan experiences, adding, "He has had two good loan spells before and he has also played in The Championship. We think he will help and add to the qualities we already have in the building."

Regarding Austerfield's integration into the team, Dicker expressed confidence: "He ticks a lot of boxes and I don’t think it will take him long to fit in. A good player is a good player and we believe he will adapt quickly."

Austerfield, who is under contract with his hometown club Huddersfield until 2026, will don the number 25 shirt at Crewe Alexandra.
