Northampton Town have confirmed the signing of Norwich City’s attacking player Tony Springett on loan for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland under-21 international is a product of the Norwich City academy and has made significant strides in his career, including 18 first-team appearances for Norwich, with 13 in this season's Championship.

Springett also had a successful loan spell with Derby County last season, where he made ten appearances.

Jon Brady, the manager of Northampton Town, shared his enthusiasm for the new signing.

“Tony is an exciting, attacking player who can play in the wide positions," Brady said.

He also noted Springett's experience with Norwich and Derby, adding, “He has a good pedigree and he adds depth to our squad in attacking positions."

Brady further commented on Springett's fit within the team.

“He has played in the Premier League, the Championship and League One so has a good pedigree and good ability... we believe he will fit in well in the excellent dressing room we have here.”

Springett, who joined Norwich City at the age of 12, made his debut for the club in a Premier League game against West Ham United in May 2022.

His loan move to Derby County in January 2023 was cut short due to an ankle injury in March, after making 11 appearances.

Internationally, Springett has been involved with the Republic of Ireland’s youth teams.

He received his first call-up to the U21 squad in August 2023 for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship qualification fixtures and made his debut in September, assisting in a win over Turkey U21.
