Women's Premier Division round-up: Shels claim derby win against Bohs as Shamrock Rovers dismantle Treaty United

Champions Shelbourne maintained their winning start to the 2023 Women’s Premier Division thanks to a 2-0 win away to Bohemians.

Noel King’s Reds eased past the Gypsies at Dalymount Park thanks to goals from Jessie Stapleton and Megan Smyth-Lynch.

The results sets Shels up nicely ahead of their eagerly-anticipated clash against Dublin rivals Shamrock Rovers next week at Tolka Park.

And it was Collie O’Neill’s Hoops who also secured their second win in a row this season with a big win against strugglers Treaty United.

Rovers youngster Jaime Thompson netted a hat-trick for Rovers in front of an 800-strong crowd at Tallaght Stadium.

Alannah McEvoy and Aoife Kelly both struck to give the Hoops a 2-0 lead at the break – before Thompson then scored a 19-minute hat-trick in difficult conditions in Dublin 24.

Lauren Kelly then scored off the bench for Rovers to put the gloss on their 6-0 win.

At Turner’s Cross, Jenna Slattery scored late for Galway United as they won their first senior Women’s Premier Division game since their inception this year.

Slattery struck in the 89th minute for Phil Trill’s side who were edged out by Wexford Youths in their opening day defeat against Wexford Youths.

And Stephen Quinn’s Youths also picked up another win – seeing off Sligo Rovers 3-1 at Ferrycarrig Park.



Rianna Jarrett scored on her return to the club with Michaela Lawrence and Emily Corbet, a recent recruit from Athlone, also finding the back of the net.

Sarah Kiernan levelled for the Bit O’ Red early on in the second-half but it proved to be a mere consolation in the end.

Meanwhile, James O’Callaghan’s Peamount United claimed a 1-0 win against DLR Waves in Greenogue.

Becky Watkins late 87th minute goal was the difference between the two teams as Graham Kelly’s side slumped to a narrow loss.
