Premier Division wrap: Bohemians return to the summit as Drogheda United claim important win on the road

Declan Devine’s in-form Bohemians returned to the top of the Premier Division table thanks to a 2-0 win away to St Patrick’s Athletic.

The Saints latest defeat means that they have now lost their last three games in a row ahead of their trip to Tallaght Stadium next week to play Shamrock Rovers.

Former Celtic striker Jonathan Afolabi netted Bohemians opener before their lead was doubled late on by sub Dean Williams.

The Gypsies jumped ahead of Derry City in the table following their win – and face UCD next week on St Patrick’s Day as they look to move further clear of the Candsytripes.

But for the Saints, the defeat leaves them 9th in the table – just three points ahead of relegation favourites UCD.

And the Students also lost on Friday night at the Belfield Bowl by a single goal.

Drogheda United teenager Emmanuel Adegboyega scored the only goal of the game for Kevin Doherty’s side who rose to fourth in the table with their win.

Derry City were held to a scoreless draw by Dundalk at the Ryan McBride Brandywell Stadium.

But the stalemate was marred by injuries picked up by Derry defender Mark Connolly and Dundalk forward Daniel Kelly who were forced off in the first-half.

At Tolka Park Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers played out a scoreless draw as the Hoops’ wait for a first league win of the season goes on.
