Shelbourne Ladies continued their strong start to the Continental Tyres Women’s National League on Saturday evening when they scored nine goals for the second consecutive league game against Kilkenny United at Morton Stadium.
In a game which Shelbourne dominated from early on, it took the home side 23 minutes to break the Kilkenny outfit down, with Aimee Jordan denying the host on several occasions before Jamie Finn broke the deadlock with a lovely low finish after racing onto a through ball.
With the home side continuing to press forward, Sarah Rowe was next to find the net after a cross from Fiona Donnelly fell to the winger who appeared to knee the ball into the net from close range. Less than three minutes later, the same combination combined for Shels third goal when Rowe played a low ball across the box for Donnelly who fired home from six yards.
As the half-time whistle approached, Rowe added her second of the game when she dinked the ball over Jordan from close range. With the game beyond Kilkenny, Casey McQuillan brought Sinead Taylor on at the break and the forward was on the field less than ten minutes when she found the net, her strike from an acute angle beating Jordan at the near post.
With key players such as Katie McCabe and Siobhan Killeen absent from the Shels side, Noelle Murray showed she can provide goals when required and the forward would add two quick goals to her sides tally, first she raced onto a Grace Murray throw ball to fire home, before three minutes later she fired home from just inside the box.
Despite being seven nil ahead, second-half substitute Courtney Higgins, was next to find the back of the net when she fired home first time from a Taylor pass. With less than five minutes remaining, Avril Brierley completed the scoring when she picked up possession deep inside the Kilkenny half before racing through on goal and firing past Jordan from inside the penalty area.
