Cork City W.F.C. welcome Shelbourne LFC to Garryduff Pitch on Sunday 24th April at 2pm in the second last home game of the season in the Continental Tyres Women’s National League.
The Leesiders have had an extended break following their last game against UCD waves in the League Cup – with their game against Galway being postponed following international call-ups. The Leesiders have three more games in the competition with a home game against Galway W.F.C. sandwiched between two games against Shelbourne L.F.C.
The Leesiders, who have seen some of their points wiped off the table in recent weeks following the withdrawal of Castlebar Celtic from the league after struggling to field a team in a number of games this year, will be hoping to get some more points on the board in the remaining games.
Speaking on the game manager Frank Kelleher had this to say “This game will test our clubs progress once again. We have had almost 3 weeks without a league match and are bursting to get back to competitive action. The attitude from the squad has been spot on in the last 3 weeks. The players have shown great commitment in training and are eager to get points on the board in our last 3 remaining league fixtures. “
He continued “At each training session we have reinforced to the group in the past few weeks, to play with confidence, build a strong attitude, play our style of football, and work hard until the final whistle. The progress continues and, now we must build on that this weekend. We know Shelbourne have quality players throughout their squad, and are still very much involved in the title race. Today we must compete for 90 minutes and maintain our organisation at all times. Continue to challenge ourselves individually and collectively, build on our recent positive results and, match the opposition at all times. This will be another test and we must respond.”
A welcome advantage to the break and a good headache for the manager is the return to full fitness of a large percentage of the squad with only a single long-term injury to Megan Carroll being absent for this game.
The game against Galway W.F.C. has been set for the May Bank Holiday weekend with details of the exact date to be announced in due course.
Injuries – Megan Carroll
Suspensions – none
Absentees – none
