Wesley Hoolahan's call up to the Irish International squad has proved a very short lived one. The 30 year old Norwich midfielder received the call up from Giovanni Trapattoni after Darron Gibson was ruled out having sustained a tear to his left thigh during Everton's pre-season training. However only hours after being included the FAI have confirmed Hoolahan has had an Achilles tendon flare up, requiring rest and will be unable to join the squad.

Hoolahan has one cap for the Republic of Ireland which came in May 2008 when he came on as a second half substitute in a 1-0 win over Colombia in Craven Cottage.

The Dubliner is well known in the League of Ireland having played with Shelbourne from 2001 to 2006 before joining Scottish side Livingston. From there he was loaned to Blackpool before signing on a permanent basis in 2007. In 2008, he joined Norwich City and was part a vital part of the team that won promotion to the English Premier League.
