Derry City -v- Cork City
Derry City will look to get back to winning ways against Cork City, in a repeat of the season opener at the Brandywell on Friday night (Kick Off 7.45pm).
Cork boss Tommy Dunne acknowledges that getting a result in the Brandywell is a big ask. " A trip to Derry for anyone – even for a Premier Division team – is a tough game.”
Derry went down 3-2 at home to Monaghan United in their last match, but Dunne says that this will only make them hungrier for the win. “Derry lost last week which will only make them doubly determined to bounce back and pick up the points to maintain their gap ahead of Monaghan. It’s going to be a tough task for us so everybody has to be clued in and ready to go. If you can pick up anything, it will be a great result.”
Stephen Mulcahy (groin), Eoghan Lougheed (work commitments) and Neal Horgan (family commitments) are unavailable for City thought suspension would have ruled Mulcahy out anyway.
Barry Molloy (ankle ligaments), Ruairi Harkin (Cartilage), Eugene Ferry (ankle ligaments) and Adam Clarke (hamstring) have all been ruled out for Derry City. David McDaid must sit out an automatic one match suspension following his controversial dismissal last week. Captain, Kevin Deery returned to action last week after an eight weeks while James McClean also returned to action having been out for a month and both will be involved against Cork.
"I continue to have great faith in these players," Derry boss Stephen Kenny said. "It's a very exciting period for them and each and every one of them is delighted to have been given the opportunity to represent the club. It's a squad I want to keep together and watch grow. I believe the team will get better and I want to see it evolve and continue to win matches as we compete to get back into the Premier Division."
The last meeting of the two sides in Derry ended in stalemate, but Derry are strong favourites to win this time. A win for the Candystripes would send them further clear at the top of the First Division, while Cork are seeking to keep the pressure on Shelbourne for fifth spot.
