Youngsters Patrick Hoban and Jimmy Keohane, formerly of Mervue United and Wexford Youths respectively, have signed contracts with English Championship side Bristol City.

Nineteen-year-old Hoban, from Loughrea in Co.Galway, is a winger who has an outstanding goalscoring record from schoolboy football. Keohane is a forward and has played with the Irish under-19 squad.

Hoban's adviser and former manager Johnny Glynn was delighted when he heard of the move.

“This is a great day for Patrick, his family and friends, and his club Mervue United. Having coached Patrick for 2 years...I was confident Patrick was ready to step up to full time training as a professional footballer."

Recently resigned Bristol City manager Steve Coppell initiated the transfers, but new manager Keith Milne signed the two players after they impressed him today.

Milne told Bristol’s official website www,bcfc.co.uk, "The pair are exciting prospects who are just happy playing football. They have been a breath of fresh air since they've arrived.

We've got to work on their fitness a bit but it's great to have them finally signed up and on board."
