Danny Grant switches to Shamrock Rovers from Bohs
Shamrock Rovers have secured the services of Danny Grant for next season and beyond.
The 24-year-old player has made the move from Bohemians to Rovers on a multi-year contract.
Speaking about the club's first signing ahead of the 2025 season, Hoops head coach Stephen Bradley said: “I spoke to Danny when I was away on holidays recently. We arranged to meet when I came home, so we did and had a good conversation. I liked what I’d heard, I knew what he was about as a player.
“He’s a clever footballer with really good attributes in the final third of the pitch. He’ll give us real directness in our play. So we’re delighted to get Danny in as there was competition from other clubs.
“Danny can play anywhere, that’s the beauty of him, he can play on the right or left hand side or in one of the number ten positions, in the high midfield position. He can play a number of positions as I said. He’s very much in the Darragh Burns or Neil Farrugia mode, a ball carrier who wants to run and score goals.”
Burns is currently on loan from MK Dons so remains to be seen will he remain with Rovers next year. Speculation is that Farrugia will make the move away from the Hoops in 2025 so Grant is a welcome addition to the Rovers squad and he is already training with his new club.
He isn’t eligible to play in Rovers’ last two league stage games in the Conference League (against Borac in Tallaght on Thursday and away to Chelsea next week) but the Hoops can add three new players to their squad for the knock-out stages of the Conference League.
Unbeaten Rovers have already qualified for the next phase of the competition with two wins and two draws from their four league stage games.
“I tried to get Danny four years ago so I’m delighted to get him now and look forward to working with him.”
Grant left Bohemians for Championship club Huddersfield Town in December 2020, having accumulated 60 appearances and 17 goals for the Gypsies. In September 2022, Danny was loaned out to League Two side Harrogate Town, making 28 league appearances with them.
He rejoined Bohs midway through the 2023 season and played in their FAI Cup final defeat to St Patrick’s Athletic. The winger scored five goals in 41 appearances in his second stint at Dalymount Park.
Grant is the fifth ex-Bohs player in Rovers' squad, joining Pico Lopes, Aaron Greene, Danny Mandroiu and Dylan Watts.
