Shane Ferguson joins Derry City as Brian Maher re-signs

Derry City have unveiled the signing of Northern Ireland international Shane Ferguson.

His switch to the Brandywell comes after Brian Maher also re-signed on Tuesday afternoon.

Though Ferguson joins having played in the Premier League with Newcastle United.

He has also represented Northern Ireland on 57 occasions and joins from Rotherham United.

“I’m delighted to be coming home,” the Derryman said.

“I’ve been training hard after a frustrating last season and I’m feeling very strong. I will really benefit now from a full pre-season and be ready to go when the new campaign starts.

“Derry City is obviously a club I know a bit about and I’m well aware of how passionate that support base is. I’m really looking forward to doing my bit to hopefully bring success to the Brandywell.”

But the return of keeper Maher is also a boost with the former Ireland Under-21 previously linked with moves away from the club.

He - like Adam O’Reilly - has committed to the club until the end of the 2026 season.

“I am absolutely delighted to extend my contract with Derry City FC,” the Dubliner said.

“Derry has been my home for the last three years and I have built up a special relationship with the supporters and that is something that I cherish.

“After sitting down with those around me and taking a bit of time to weigh everything up I decided this was where I wanted to be and to try to put right what happened at the end of last year.”
