Sligo Rovers have secured Reece Hutchinson for the 2025 season. The 24-year-old left back has agreed to a one-year extension, continuing his journey at the Showgrounds.

Initially joining on loan from Cheltenham Town in 2023, Hutchinson made his move to Rovers permanent following a promising start. Since then, he has featured almost 50 times for the club, finding the net three times and playing in every competitive match last season.

Discussing his decision with sligorovers.com, Hutchinson expressed a deep connection with the club and its ambitions.

"Sligo is a second home for me and there was no question for me whether I'd be hanging around or not," he explained.

He added, "This is where I want to play and this is where I enjoy my football. Ultimately, I signed because I have real belief in John (Russell) and his plans. I know he will add quality between now and the start of next season."

Hutchinson is looking to build on a solid 2024 season, aiming for a spot in European competitions.

"We weren't miles off Europe last year and we can push for a European finish this season, I believe," he said.

Rovers manager John Russell praised Hutchinson's development and fit within the team's strategy.

"Reece is a player who has made huge strides since coming to Rovers. He fits in perfectly with the way we want to play," Russell remarked.

As Hutchinson prepares for his third season with Rovers, his focus remains on advancing his career and contributing to the team's goals.

"I have always backed myself but coming to Rovers brought that confidence and swagger back to my game," he shared.
