St Johnstone have announced the signing of 21-year-old defender Sam McClelland on a two-year contract.

McClelland joins the Scottish Premiership club following a successful youth career with Chelsea.

In the final year of his contract with Chelsea, McClelland spent a fruitful loan season with League 2 side Barrow, making over 30 appearances.

The young defender has also proven himself at the international level, having played for Northern Ireland at various youth stages and earning his first full international cap in 2021 in a friendly against Ukraine.

On his move to St Johnstone, McClelland shared his excitement and anticipation: "I’m so happy to be here and get the deal over the line. I first heard about a potential move around a week or so ago and I was immediately interested in coming here. I’m really looking forward to getting started.”

He continued, "I like defending but I also feel I’m comfortable on the ball as well. I’m here to defend, keep clean sheets and get wins for the team.”
