Sunderland welcomes Jenson Seelt from PSV Eindhoven
Sunderland have completed the signing of Dutch defender Jenson Seelt from PSV Eindhoven.
The move makes Seelt the club's fourth acquisition of the summer, following Hemir, Nectar Triantis, and Jobe Bellingham.
Joining the Black Cats for an undisclosed fee, Seelt inked a five-year deal over the weekend.
The 20-year-old is expected to meet his new team-mates at the Academy of Light on Monday as the pre-season training commences.
Seelt leaves his homeland after a six-year tenure with Eindhoven, where he made 63 appearances and netted seven goals for Jong PSV in the Eerste Divisie, the second tier of Dutch football.
He made his first-team debut for the 24-time Eredivisie champions against PEC Zwolle in May 2022, and was included in the senior matchday squad on nine occasions during the 2022-23 campaign.
Seelt expressed his excitement about his move to Wearside.
“It feels great to be here – Sunderland is a big Club and this is a big opportunity for me, so I can’t wait to get started. I’m the type of defender who likes to play with the ball at my feet, but I also enjoy an aerial duel and making tackles. I’m ready for the challenge and I’m looking forward to playing at the Stadium of Light in front of the supporters.”
Kristjaan Speakman, Sunderland AFC's Sporting Director, echoed this enthusiasm, noting: “Jenson is a player that we have been tracking for some time and he’s gained invaluable experience at senior level over the past two seasons, regularly playing in the Dutch second tier and being part of PSV’s senior matchday squad."
"Naturally comfortable in possession, he also possesses some great defensive attributes that will help him adapt to our playing identity and Championship football. He is excited to get started and we are delighted to welcome him to SAFC.”
