Cambridge United have secured the services of midfielder George Thomas for another two seasons.

After signing a short-term contract with the team in January, Thomas has committed to an extended stay with Cambridge, inking a new two-year contract.

Thrilled about this development, Thomas said, “I am really happy to re-sign with the Club. I got my love for the game back over the past few months and I am excited now for what the new season could bring."

"It’s really important now that we kick on and use the momentum that we gained towards the end of last season."

Mark Bonner, the club's coach, shared his optimism about the extended contract. He acknowledged that while Thomas' previous stint with the team was impacted by an ankle injury, he demonstrated the qualities that solidified his position in the squad.

“When George signed in January, we were excited by the attributes he could bring the team. In the end, due to an ankle injury, we only saw glimpses of those, but his qualities still shone through a number of times, none more so than that memorable moment at Accrington."

"He will bring us control in possession, he can penetrate opposition defences with the ball, and score and create goals," Bonner said.

He further highlighted Thomas's flexibility on the pitch, noting, “He is a versatile midfield player who could play equally well from deep or in a more advanced position."
