Louis Jones, Rovers' goalkeeper, has signed a new two-year contract, extending his stay at the club until the summer of 2025.

The 24-year-old Thorne-born player, who first inked professional terms with Rovers in March 2017, is currently the longest-serving senior player in the squad.

Upon signing the contract, Jones said, “I’m thrilled to extend my stay at the club. I’ve been here for a long time now and I think I have a real understanding of the feeling the fans, having been through the ups and downs with them. Hopefully, this year we can push on with Grant and Cliff and have an exciting season.”

Having graduated from the club's academy, Jones has already made 38 senior appearances for Rovers, starting the final two games of the previous season.

Grant McCann, the team's manager, spoke highly of Jones and his development as a player.

McCann said, “Louis is a lad who is developing all the time. He’s still only young and I’m looking forward to seeing him fight Ian Lawlor for that number one spot.

"He’ll be wanting to play more but he understands he’ll have a fight on his hands with Lawsy and Lawsy understands he’ll have a fight on his hands with Louis.”
