Longford Town sign striker Beineón O’Brien-Whitmarsh

First Division Longford Town have unveiled the signing of former Cork City striker Beineón O’Brien-Whitmarsh.

The striker, 23, is the older brother of Cork City starlet Joe and was previously at City for a spell after leaving Cobh Ramblers initially.

But Beineón’s most recent League of Ireland stint saw him play for Cobh.

And last season he was one of the Rams key attacking threats as the Rams laboured to a lowly league finish.

The Corkonian made 74 senior appearances across the two clubs and has scored 15 goals with eight assists to his name.

O’Brien-Whitmarsh made his debut for Longford Town during their 3-0 loss at home to Treaty United on Saturday night.

Enda Curran’s brace set Tommy Barrett’s side on their way to a win, with Stephen Christopher also netting.

Town keeper Jack Brady was dismissed following a collision with Curran after the striker scored his second.

Treaty United defender Ben O’Riordan was also given his marching orders late on alongside Longford first-team coach Gavin Peers.
