League Preview: Treaty United -v- Athlone Town

TREATY UNITED

Fresh from two wins on the bounce, Treaty United host Athlone Town at the Market’s Field on Friday night (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

Tommy Barrett’s side scored seven goals and kept two clean sheets in their two games last weekend as they swatted aside Kerry at home and Bray Wanderers away.

In their win against the Kingdom, goals from Dean George, Success Edogun and Ben O’Riordan gave them the platform to claim a 4-0 win at home.

But on Monday afternoon they claimed a superb 3-0 win against Bray Wanderers.

A late brace from winger Willie Armshaw saw the Shannonsiders wheel away at the death after Enda Curran gave them a first-half lead against Ian Ryan’s side.

And that leaves them in fine fettle ahead of Friday’s vital showdown with First Division high-flyers Athlone Town.

ATHLONE TOWN

Also on the crest of a wave, Athlone Town visit the Market’s Field knowing that they can copper-fasten their position in the play-off places against Treaty United.

Gordon Brett’s side also won twice over the Bank Holiday weekend as they defeated Wexford and Finn Harps.

Their first win came against the Slaneysiders as James Keddy’s side were no match for the Lissywollen outfit.

And it was striker Frantz Pierrot who scored a hat-trick in that game to inspire Brett’s play-off chasers to a 3-0 win.

On Monday against Finn Harps, Pierrot scored two more in a 4-1 win away to Finn Harps in Ballybofey.

Ukrainian Valerii Dolia and American Haji Abdikadir also got in on the act for the Co Westmeath men.

Crucially, those two wins pushed Athlone into third in the table as they sit on a healthy total of 19 points after just 12 games played.
