League Preview: Athlone Town -v- Cobh Ramblers

ATHLONE TOWN

Athlone Town host Cobh Ramblers at the Athlone Town Stadium on Friday evening as they look to return to winning ways (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Co. Westmeath side have struggled since their solid start to the campaign that yielded wins against Longford Town and Finn Harps.

Only a win against Kerry has followed, and there has been some managerial upheaval at the club in the meantime.

Last weekend, it emerged that joint-manager Dermot Lennon stepped aside from his role to return to the post as Director of Football.

As a result, Portuguese native Dario Castelo was in the dugout for their 1-0 loss against Bray Wanderers.

The club have yet to confirm details of their management team for their next game against Cobh – but it is expected that Gordon Brett will be confirmed as boss prior to the clash.

COBH RAMBLERS

Also reeling from a defeat last weekend, Cobh Ramblers will be looking to maintain their unbeaten away record this season on Friday night.

Ramblers were beaten at home by Waterford last weekend but have impressed for the most part this year under boss Shane Keegan.

But heading into Friday’s trip to Athlone, they will be without their captain Jason Abbott through injury.

Meanwhile, Michael McCarthy and Brendeán Frahill remain doubts having missed the Waterford tie.

However, that may leave the door open for 18-year-old Charlie O’Brien who impressed on his debut at centre back last week against Waterford.

The former Cork City youngster is the brother of Ireland Under-21 international Jake O’Brien.

Referee: David Dunne.
