League Preview: Galway United -v- Longford Town

GALWAY UNITED

Galway United welcome Longford Town to Eamonn Deacy Park this evening in the First Division (kick-off is at 7.45pm).

The Tribesmen have enjoyed a blistering start to the season so far and have won five from five under boss John Caulfield.

And their most recent win saw them claim a top of the table success clash with Cobh Ramblers at St Colman’s Park.

That saw them stretch their lead at the top to five points – but they will be wary of Longford’s defensive strength ahead of their clash on Friday night.

“They’re a very well-organised team,” John Caulfield said.

“Very solid. They’ve only conceded two goals in their opening five games.”

LONGFORD TOWN

Still searching for their first win of the season, Longford Town travel to Galway to face John Caulfield’s league leaders.

Town were edged out in their last game against Finn Harps with a late penalty from midfielder Ryan Rainey.

But the defeat was their second from their first three home games as their prolificacies’ in front of goal cost them again.

However, they have shored themselves up defensively following their opening day defeat to Athlone Town at Bishopsgate.

And they will take confidence from their last game against a big-hitter in the First Division when they claimed a hard-fought draw against Waterford at the RSC last month.

Cristian Magerusan is an injury doubt for Town.

Referee: Declan Toland.
