Wexford claimed their first three points of the season with a 3-0 win over Athlone Town at Ferrycarrig Park, courtesy of Adam Dobbs and a brace from Aaron Robinson.

James Keddy’s men marched out to a pyrotechnic display for their opening home game of the season and there were fireworks early in this encounter too as Aaron Dobbs opened the scoring just past the ten minute mark. Former Dundalk left winger Mark Hanratty delivered a cross which was converted by Enniscorthy’s Dobbs to get his goal tally up and running for the season.

The Slaneysiders continued to dominate the opening half but it took until the second period before they extended their lead, this time  through new arrival Aaron Robinson. The former Longford Town midfielder snapped the ball to the net after Athlone had repelled Conor Levingston’s set piece- his first goal since scoring against the same opposition last September.

On the hour mark, a similar finish from the 26 year old added to his tally with full back Reece Webb providing the assist on his second home start of the season. Goalkeeper Noel Heffernan was another to pick up a second start of the campaign and he had to be sharp on a couple of occasions throughout the encounter to keep his clean sheet intact.

Athlone suffered their first defeat of the season and will be looking to get their season back on track with a result next weekend as they host a Waterford side who lost to Galway this evening while Wexford make their longest away trip of the season as they visit a Finn Harps side with a single point from their opening three games.
