Extratime.com staff predictions – First Division 2023

It’s that time of the year again, the League of Ireland First Division season is upon us with the first games set to kick off on Friday night.

With the start of the season this week comes the annual extratime.com staff predictions as we attempt to predict the outcome of the second tier once again.

Last year we predicted that Waterford would claim the First Division title and thought that eventual winners Cork City would come third…

But we correctly tipped a play-off finish for Longford Town – but once again tipped Treaty United to finish outside of the play-offs.

And we did not foresee Bray Wanderers dismal campaign,

But for 2023 we have predicted that Waterford will waltz home and secure a top-flight return despite the threat of Finn Harps and Galway United.

Wexford and Treaty United are tipped to take the remaining two play-off berths.

We also expect League of Ireland new boys Kerry to prop up the table in their debut campaign, but do reckon that they will push Athlone Town in the race to avoid the wooden spoon.

Let us know what you think.
