Coventry City have announced the signing of Ireland international striker Seani Maguire from Preston North End. The deal is initially until the end of the season.

The midlands club are currently in 15th position in the Championship having only won one match since the resumption of the season following the World Cup.

Maguire is a full Irish international having gained ten caps and scoring one goal for his country.

The forward begun his career at Waterford United before moving to West Ham United in 2013. He failed to make an appearance for the London club but gained experience on loans to Accrington Stanley and Sligo Rovers.

He returned to Ireland to Dundalk for half a season prior to joining Cork City. This was his most productive spell as he scored 54 goals in 73 games. He netted the winner in the FAI Cup final in 2016 and added the league title the following season.

This form alerted the attention of cross channel sides and Preston won the race. He notched ten goals in his first season and has made over 100 appearances for them so far.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Sean to Coventry. He is an experienced striker at this level, who has a number of qualities that will help us between now and the end of the season. He will provide a very good option for us in the forward area, and we look forward to working with him”.

Maguire will join up with the rest of the squad ahead of their home clash with Huddersfield Town.
