Darragh O’Connor signs for Wexford from Shamrock Rovers
Wexford boss Brian O’Sullivan has signed defender Darragh O’Connor from the Shamrock Rovers under-19 squad for the upcoming First Division season.
The 19-year-old defender, who hails from Clonroche, previously played under Wexford FC coach David Breen for the Waterford under-19 team.
O’Connor played last season in Tallaght Stadium with Rovers’ under-19 team. He was an unused player in the final of the National League where the Hoops were beaten 1-0 by Bohs.
The centre-half, who began his playing career as a schoolboy with Cloughbawn FC, will get his chance to make his competitive debut for Wexford next month when the league kicks off on Friday 22 February with an away fixture in Athlone.
Prior to that though Wexford have confirmed two pre-season games for January with a match against St. Patrick’s Athletic in Carlow I.T. on Saturday 12 January - the sides have also been drawn to play each other in the Fourth Round of the Leinster Senior Cup. However a date for that fixture has yet to be confirmed.
Wexford will also play a friendly with Waterford in the RSC on 19 January.
