10. DROGHEDA UNITED -V- SHAMROCK ROVERS

There was delight in Drogheda for the home supporters but it was yet another painful evening in the FAI Cup for Shamrock Rovers supporters in August as First Division Drogheda dumped the Hoops out of the Cup.

The 25th FAI Cup win for the record cup winners never seemed so far away for the Hoops fans as the Drogs supporters raised the roof in United Park with their hard fought 1-0 victory.

Hoops Head Coach Stephen Bradley introduced 16-year-old Sinclair Armstrong as they chased the game late on but Tim Clancy’s Drogs defence held firm to earn the win on the back of a 23rd minute penalty – converted by Chris Lyons – after an incident that saw the Rovers player-of-the-year Lee Grace receive a red card.

9.DUNDALK -V- SHAMROCK ROVERS

Premier Division – Tuesday 28 August – Updates by Tom O’Connor

It was a better night further up the M1 for Rovers supporters later in the month as Dylan Watts slotted home a 93rd minute winner from the penalty spot to claim all three points in a controversial ending to the game.



FT: Rovers were resolute throughout the game and deserved to take a point for their performance but this is certainly not the end you’ll hear of this refereeing performance. Sean Hoare sent off after the final whistle.

8.DERRY CITY -V- BOHEMIANS

Premier Division – Monday 16 April – Updates by Odhrán Crumley

Dylan Watts was also on the scoresheet in this game but from earlier in the season when he was lining out for Bohs. A Monday evening match might mean that many Bohs fans kept an eye on our match updates rather than travel up to Derry. And with the result they were probably happy not to have made the trip north as the Candystripes prevailed 3-1.

7. SHAMROCK ROVERS -V- BOHEMIANS



Premier Division – Friday 13 April – Updates by Sam McKeever

Bohs were the business in the Dublin derbies in 2018, winning three and drawing the other. The Hoops led through Dan Carr but withdrew into their shell in the second half as Keith Long’s men – buoyed by the vocal Bohs travelling support packed into one end of the main stand in Tallaght – went for it.

Keith Ward broke the cornerflag celebrating Dan Byrne’s 69th minute equaliser resulting in a long delay as a replacement flag was found. The Gypsies exploited every last second of the nine minutes of injury time with Darragh Leahy scoring late late on to earn a famous win as the clocked ticked to 99 minutes.

6.SHELBOURNE -V- ST. PATRICK'S ATHLETIC

Leinster Senior Cup – 28 September – Updates by Dave Donnelly

When the penalty shootout claxon goes off, the internet gets in on the action and Dave Donnelly brought us the penalty-by-penalty updates in this year’s Leinster Senior Cup final. Shels retained their trophy winning 6-5 in the shootout.

5. BOHEMIANS -V- DERRY CITY

Premier Division – Tuesday 27 February – Updates by Ger Deegan

With the ‘beast from the east’ storm beginning to get its grip on the country, Derry City grabbed all three points thanks to Ronan Curtis, now a full international, on a cold winter’s night in Dalymount Park.

4. CORK CITY -V- SHAMROCK ROVERS

Premier Division – Monday 12 March – Updates by Philip Morrissey

Kieran Sadlier scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot in this mid-week match in Turner’s Cross in March.

3. ST. PATRICK'S ATHLETIC -V- CORK CITY

Premier Division – 16 February – Updates by Alex Dunne

On the opening night of the season, Kieran Sadlier was the match winner. His 82nd minute strike, after City lost a 2-0 lead, secured all three points for the visitors.

82: Kieran Sadlier scores for Cork City straight from a corner kick. Unbelievable given how this game has gone. The defence seemed to melt away from the goal-line as the ball curled in. Ultimately Pats have misjudged that terribly and now have seven minutes to retrieve the situation.

2. ST. PATRICK'S ATHLETIC -V- DUNDALK

EA Sports Cup – Monday 9 April – Updates by Brendan Graham

It was quite the league cup game on the banks of the Camac in April. 2-2 after normal time, St. Pat’s took a 4-3 lead into the final minute of extratime only for Dane Massey to equalise to set up a penalty shoot-out.

Massey missed his spot kick but his teammate Marco Tagbajumi slotted home the winning penalty kick in the 8-7 shootout win as Dundalk dumped St. Pat’s out of the EA Sports Cup.

1. SHELBOURNE -V- DROGHEDA UNITED

League Play-off – 8 October – Updates by Macdara Ferris

Shelbourne seemingly self-destructed in this promotion play-off against Drogheda United.

Carrying a 1-0 first leg lead, they received their first red card on 10 minutes before Drogheda drew the tie level. Shels got their second red card on 37 minutes for a James English horror tackle on Jack Hyland.

Chris Lyons put Drogs 2-1 up on aggregate before the Reds remarkably equalised through Adam Evans on 77 minutes. The sides couldn’t be separated in extra time but the Drogs prevailed in the penalty shootout 4-3.
