Dan Carr handed Hoops number nine jersey for 2018 season

The Hoops have handed their number nine jersey to new signing Dan Carr.

The striker has been with Stephen Bradley’s Shamrock Rovers squad for pre-season including Rovers' time out in the Algarve playing in the Atlantic Cup (see here). He scored one of the spot kicks in their 4-2 penalty shootout win over Hammerby.

Carr played the second half in Rovers’ pre-season game against a Brentford XI last Saturday and was announced as a new Rovers signing at the club’s official season launch after the match.

Pat Byrne and John Coady, two members of Shamrock Rovers’ four-in-a-row side from the 1980s, presented jerseys to each of the Hoops squad members. Michael O’Connor wore the number nine jersey in 2017 but the teenager has gone on loan to Finn Harps (see here). The jersey with a gold number nine will be worn by Dan Carr for the coming season.

The 24-year-old Englishman had spells in the English Football League at Huddersfield Town where he made his league debut in 2013 but he made only two league appearances in the Championship. He subsequently went on loan in League Two with Fleetwood Town, Mansfield Town and Dagenham & Redbridge.

Following spells with Cambridge United and Dulwich Hamlet, most recently he has been playing with Karlstad BK in the fourth level of Swedish professional football.
