Turkish training camp and friendly set for Boys in Green
The Republic of Ireland’s first fixture of 2018 will be a trip to Turkey for a friendly in March.
Martin O’Neill’s men will take on Turkey in the new 32,500 capacity stadium in Antalya on Friday 23 March. Around the game the Boys in Green will be based on the Turkish south-west coast for a four day training camp.
Like Ireland, Turkey failed to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in Russia. They finished fourth in Group I behind table toppers Iceland and runners up Croatia (who subsequently won their playoff against Greece).
Turkey, who are managed by Romanian Mircea Lucescu, are ranked ten placed below the Boys in Green in the FIFA World Rankings.
It is Ireland’s first game in Turkey since 1999 and will be the 14th match between the sides – Ireland have five wins while Turkey have two.
Last week’s the FAI confirmed a friendly against France to be played in Paris in May (see here).
