O'Connor and Molloy join Drogheda United

Drogheda United have announced the signings of Sam O’Connor and Aaron Molloy for the 2016 season.

O’Connor, who spent two years with Hull City’s youth team before departing the club in 2014, joins Drogheda from Athlone Town where the striker scored three times in 21 appearances last season.

The 19-year-old becomes the first striker to join Pete Mahon’s new-look side and the Drogheda boss believes that his new signing will be amongst the goals in 2016.

"Sam had a spell with Hull in England and returned home recently and played with Athlone Town,” Mahon said Tuesday evening. "He is a very strong centre forward who has an eye for goal and I am hoping that we will see the best of him next season.”

Joining O’Connor at United Park will be winger Aaron Molloy who has signed from Bohemians.

The 18-year-old, son of former three-time League of Ireland winner Trevor, captained Bohemians Under 19s last term to the Northern Elite Division Title and Mahon is delighted to add the promising wide man to the Drogheda squad.

Speaking to DroghedaUnited.ie, Mahon said: "Aaron is a highly-rated midfielder who excelled with Bohemians under 19s last season. He has a very exciting future ahead of him and his signature was much sought after. I am delighted that he has chosen to sign for Drogheda United as he believes we will give him the best platform to develop."
