Cabinteely masterstroke as they honour failed bets with ticket to next game

We’ve all been there. It’s the last moments of a match, you are in the driving seat of a crazy accumulator. The final game is a ‘gimme’. You’ve selected the league leaders against a team the odds demand they will beat. But odds mean nothing in this cruel world of accumulated bets and in the last moments a goal flashes up on the screen and your dreams shattered. Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and eventual begrudging acceptance.

Last Friday social media was subjected to such an outpouring of despair and heartbreak as a 95th minute goal from John McKeown for Cabinteely earned the SSE Airtricity First Division new boys a point against league leaders Finn Harps.

Cabinteely may be the new team on the block in the league but they are as savvy as they come. The club released the following statement on their website offering all the people who lost because of their equaliser a free ticket to their next home game.

“We couldn’t help but notice on Twitter that John McKeown’s late equaliser on Friday was a bit of a ‘coupon buster’ and caused a lot of people to lose their bets. We have decided that for our next home game on May 22nd against Cobh Ramblers, anyone who brings us a losing bet slip from Friday night will get free entry! We want to show you why you should never write us off! Come on Cabo”

Quite the masterstroke on the PR front as well as no doubt improving their gate for the home game against Cobh.
