Extratime.ie Key man: Robert Maloney
A good defensive set up will be crucial to Cabinteely in their debut season in the League of Ireland. Anchoring the centre of defence will be Rob Maloney who, although only 21, has good experience under his belt. He spent six months in the underage setup at Liverpool before joining Fulham. He spent three years at Craven Cottage before coming back to Ireland to make his League of Ireland debut with Wexford Youths in 2013.
Last season he was signed by Alan Mathews for Bray Wanderers, making his debut with the Seagulls on the opening weekend of the campaign in a scoreless draw away to Limerick FC. He went on to make 21 league appearances in his debut season for the Wicklow club before recently making the move to play for his hometown club Cabinteely.
Extratime.ie One to watch: Jamie McGlynn
Jamie McGlynn is another player with League of Ireland experience in the First Division. The left back played for the St. Patrick's Athletic U19 side in their 2011/12 winter season, and remained with them for 2012/13. However injury disrupted his progress and in January 2013 the man from Swords signed for Tony Mannion at Salthill Devon. He made his league debut for the Galway club on the opening night the season and made 11 league appearances over the opening half of 2013.
Jamie played on trial with Shelbourne during the summer of 2013 and signed for the Reds, making his competitive debut away to St Patrick's Athletic in August. He had made five league appearances by the end of the year and subsequently played four games for Bray Wanderers last season.

What to expect this season:
Last year Shamrock Rovers brought together a squad to play in the First Division who managed to finish sixth in the eight team league. If Cabinteely boss Eddie Gormley, who was educated at Cabinteely Community School, and his assistant Dave Mackey can do something similar, they would probably admit to be quite satisfied with their debut League of Ireland season.
They have brought together a squad at short notice which comprises players with limited League of Ireland experience, alongside young talent from non-league clubs in the South Dublin area. Not too much can be read into their two pre-season games (a 6-0 away loss to FAI Cup holders St. Pat’s and a 3-0 loss to Bohs in Wayside), and it may take some time for the side playing in Stradbrook to gel, but Cabinteely insist they are in the league for the medium to long term. It will be up to them to prove their many doubters wrong.
