Ireland drops one place in latest FIFA World Rankings

Today FIFA announced their latest World Rankings and the Republic of Ireland have dropped down one place in the rankings to 65th position from a previous ranking of 64th.

The Republic of Ireland last played a match back in November when they defeated the USA 4-1 but have been overtaken by Gabon who climbed three places in the recent rankings.

Martin O’Neill and Roy Keane will be hoping to see their side climb up the ranking scheme this year but in order to do so they will need to get good results especially against Scotland and Poland at home. Results against these teams will be vital to the Republic of Ireland if they are going to qualify for Euro 2016 in France.

In other rankings, 2014 World Cup winners Germany remain in pole position with runners up Argentina in second place.

Closer to home England remain in 13th position with Wales and Scotland staying in 34th and 36th place respectively while Northern Ireland have climbed one position to 47th in the world.
