Extratime Fantasy Football League in association with Bison Bar & BBQ - Gameweek 1 Update

Extratime’s Fantasy Football articles are in association with the Bison Bar & BBQ and will feature every week throughout the season. Each week will publish a top ten from our Extratime league which you can join by following the How to Play instruction below. (CODE:  6686-2741)

When you sit down to pick your Fantasy Football team pre-season you rarely expect a Hull City defender to top the points scoring list after Gameweek 1 but that is exactly what happened. James Chester, with a clean sheet, a goal, three bonus points and the two points for 90 minutes played, amassed an impressive 15 points against new boys QPR. In fact, in the top 20 best performing players after the first round of games, 13 of the 20 came in at 6 million or less.

As stated in our opening article on Fantasy Football, picking the right Captain is a key factor to Fantasy Football success. Giovanni Carroll did just that and tops the Extratime.ie Fantasy Football League in Association with the Bison Bar & BBQ after Gameweek 1.

Giovanni’s “Gioskop” captained Raheem Sterling and as a result pulled over 31% of his points from the Liverpool midfielder. John Lyons “Oh Twigg of Scotland” shares top spot with Giovanni on 83 points however, removing the captain points from the equation, his overall team performance resulted in an average of 7 points per player versus Giovanni’s 6.3.

The top 10 in the Extratime.ie Fantasy Football League in Association with the Bison Bar & BBQ is as follows:

Fantasy Football Week 1

Extratime reporter Stephen Pollard has taken a novel approach to his team selection. He has decided to put his backing in the players that represent (or could represent) Ireland. Of his starting XI, ten players made appearances but the highest points earned as a dismal two. His sits 1,449th in the league aka 2nd last.

Like so many people at this stage of the competition, the attractiveness of using the wildcard is overwhelming. The hopes and dreams of last week are long since dead for those at the base of the league. Drastic action may be needed. Of course, once wildcards are used, you can be guaranteed players that you sold will suddenly remember they are footballers and net hat-tricks and your keeper will become the human equivalent of a goal sized brick wall. Be warned not to knee-jerk panic, last week’s hero can be this week’s lame duck and vice versa.

Extratime.ie One to Watch

Our One to Watch this week is Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse. The midfielder was a constant threat against Liverpool and could be a source of many assists for Southampton this season as well as the odd goal. Southampton face West Brom this week.
