Another busy weekend lies ahead in the SSE Airtricity League with two rounds of Premier Divisions matches and one series of First Division games taking place between Good Friday and Easter Monday.
On Good Friday, the top six are in action against each other with the game of the night probably being the clash between leaders Dundalk and third placed Shamrock Rovers. Three points separate the sides so there is a lot a stake even if it is still early in the season and Dundalk got a psychological advantage on Tuesday night when they beat the Hoops 1-0 in the second leg of their Setanta Sports Cup semi-final.
Second place Cork City, who trail the leaders by two points, will be looking to take advantage of any slip-up by Dundalk and regain top spot. They are at home to Drogheda United whose unbeaten start to the season was ended last weekend by Bray Wanderers.
Defending champions St Patrick’s Athletic are only four points off top spot following their victory over Shamrock Rovers last Friday and they face another Dublin derby when they meet sixth placed Bohemians at Richmond Park.
With the top six facing each other, it means that there will also be a lot at stake in the bottom half of the table with bottom placed Athlone Town travelling to Limerick still looking for their first point of the season after seven games. Stuart Taylor’s side got their first win of the season last week when they beat Bohemians and will be looking to build on that
After a good performance in Cork, and an emphatic 5-1 win over St Patrick’s Athletic in the Setanta Sports Cup on Monday, Sligo Rovers will be hoping that their season is finally about to kick-off when they face a UCD side that has lost their last two games.
Those five games kick off at 7.45pm while Bray Wanderers meet Derry City at 5pm with both teams looking to build on last week’s wins over Drogheda and Athlone respectively.
In the First Division leaders Shelbourne are at home to bottom placed Cobh Ramblers while Waterford United, who are still looking for their first win, face a Shamrock Rovers side that finally broke their duck last Sunday with a win over Longford. Wexford Youths face Galway in Friday’s other First Division match while on Saturday Longford Town host Finn Harps.
