It’s the start of a busy weekend in the SSE Airtricity League with two rounds of Premier Division matches and one series of First Division games in the space of four days. There will be a full programme of Premier Division action on Friday and Monday nights with First Division action spread over Friday and Saturday evening.

There are two stand-out games in the Premier Division on Friday night. Joint leaders Shamrock Rovers and Cork City go head to head in a top of the table clash at Turner’s Cross where a bumper crowd is expected while at Richmond Park, in front of the RTE cameras, the champions St Patrick’s Athletic meet last season’s runners-up Dundalk in a game both sides need to win to keep on the tails of the top two.

Bohemians, who held Dundalk to a draw in Oriel Park last week, face a Bray Wanderers side that lost out to UCD in an eight goal thriller while there is a North West derby at the Brandywell as Derry City host neighbours Sligo Rovers with needing the points to start climbing the table.

Limerick, who are still searching for their first win, travel to Belfield to play UCD while Mick Cooke returns to United Park, for the first time since his departure after last season’s FAI Ford Cup Final, as bottom of the table Athlone Town meet third place Drogheda United.

In the First Division leaders Finn Harps meet second place Shelbourne at Tolka Park while the bottom two, Galway and Cobh Ramblers, take on each other at Eamonn Deacy Park and Wexford Youths host Shamrock Rovers at Ferrycarrig Park. On Saturday night Longford Town meet Waterford United at City Calling Stadium.
