Kilduff picks up Player award for October

The last Player of the Month award of the 2013 season has been handed out and it has gone to Shamrock Rovers player and Cork City loan signing Ciaran Kilduff.

Cork signed the former UCD and Kildare City front man on a loan deal during the summer and Kilduff hasn't looked back since as he has managed to get the goals Cork needed to turn their season around after the departure of Tommy Dunne.

The highlight of the striker's month was undoubtedly when he banged in four goals in the one game against Shelbourne in Turner's Cross. League winner Ian Birmingham finished the month in second place while UCD's Robbie Benson was voted into third position.

Kilduff himself struggled to get into the Shamrock Rovers team prompting the move south but having scored five goals in just three games it would be hard to see Rovers boss Trevor Croly allowing Kilduff to go out on loan again next season.

Kilduff spoke having received his award whilst admitting that it had been a month that would live long in the memory.

"The Shels game was clearly a special, special night for me. To score four goals in a game is something I won’t forget, but really it’s down to the hard work of the players around me.

With each passing game at Cork I could feel myself getting stronger and stronger, and I am grateful for the chance to play as I have done. It was overall a great month, yes there was a bit of blemish against Dundalk when we were beaten and well, but it was a harsh margin of defeat on us that day.”

“I had two hat-tricks before, but never got four and I was told after the game no Cork City player had previously scored four goals in the one league game, so it’s an honour for sure.

I have won this prize before, but as a First Division player and winning the prize has really capped a great month for me with Cork City.”

When asked about what his plans were for next year as the striker prepares to pack his bags and head back up to Tallaght the man of the moment had the following to say, “I suppose I have a few things to sort out now, I do have a year left of my contract with Shamrock Rovers so we’ll have to see how things go in the next little while.”
