Airtricity League Summary-Gameweek 11

Nine games took place in the Airtricity League on Friday night with a total of 20 goals scored across the matches. The Galway derby clash of Salthill Devon and Mervue United was the only game to fail to produce a goal.

 

PREMIER DIVISION ROUND UP

In the Premier Division, Sligo Rovers lost top spot after an 84th minute Karl Sheppard goal cancelled out David Cawley's opener. The Bit O'Red's goal scoring dynamo Anthony Elding failed to score but did see red on 87 minutes after a foul on Stephen Rice. For more read Seamus Egan's match report.

 

The draw in Tallaght opened the door for Derry City to leapfrog to the summit of the division, however they left it dramatically late. With five minutes remaining the Candystripes were a goal down to Limerick but two goals in two minutes sealed a home victory. For more read Jamie Mahon's report.

 

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Drogheda United and Bohemians played out a two-two draw as Bohs fought back twice having gone behind to the home side. For more read PJ Murray's report.

 



Dundalk maintained their perfect away record this season and added to Bray Wanderers’ woes with a hard fought 1-0 victory over the Seagulls at the Carlisle. Pat Hoban’s early second half header was enough to separate the sides in a tightly contested encounter which lacked any real quality. For more read Ryan Bailey's report.

 

In Turner's Cross, St Pats put on a fine passing display as they defeated Cork City by two goals to nil. For more read Alan Feehely's report.

 

The final Premier Division game saw Shelbourne register their first win of the campaign as they defeated fellow strugglers UCD by two goals to nil. This moves the Reds off the bottom of the table, moving above Bray Wanderers and UCD. For more read Ruairdhi Croke's report.

 



FIRST DIVISION ROUND UP

Longford Town left it late in the RSC as yet another David O'Sullivan goal earned the league leaders a point after Michael Coady had given Waterford the lead. For more read Adrian Flanagan's report.

 

Athlone Town didn't hold back as they put four past Wexford Youths, Philly Gorman with a brace for Roddy Collins' charges. For more read Simon O'Gorman's report.
