Damien’s Biography

Damien played underage football with Avondale United before spending two years at Cork City between 1998 and 2000. In 2000 he signed for Peter Taylor at Leicester City and he made 8 league appearances in his two seasons with the Foxes.

In 2002 Damien signed for Taylor again, this time at Hull City, where he made over 200 league appearances over the next six seasons. In January 2008 he signed for QPR and made over 50 league appearances for the Hoops before moving on in the summer of 2009 to join Ipswich Town.#

In June 2018 at the age of 36, Damien signed for Cork City after leaving Crystal Palace with the lure of Champions League football given as a key reason for the move. In December 2018, Cork announced that Damien and the club had parted company by mutual agreement.

In January of 2019, Delaney signed for Waterford on a one-year deal and this would be the final contract of his career and he announced his retirement on Independence Day, 4 July 2019.

Damien was first called up to the Irish international squad in May 2008 and has made 5 senior international appearances for the Republic of Ireland.
